A former Nigerian soldier, Ruth Ogunleye, who was dismissed after accusing senior military officers of rape and sexual harassment, has publicly condemned her treatment in a new video.
Ogunleye initially raised the allegations in January via TikTok, claiming she had been assaulted by a general and two colonels. The accusations sparked outrage in Nigeria, with the women’s minister addressing the issue with the army chief.
Following an internal investigation, the Nigerian Army dismissed her claims, stating that Ogunleye had been discharged on medical grounds, citing a condition that made her vulnerable, though no further details were provided.
In her latest TikTok video, Ogunleye urged the army to release the full investigation report, describing her alleged assault and mistreatment. She also criticized the army for dismissing her without proper justification.
Army spokesman Gen Onyema Nwachukwu responded by reaffirming the investigation’s conclusion, which cleared the accused officers of wrongdoing. He also accused Ogunleye of spreading false claims and engaging in defamation via social media.
Women’s rights activists have since called for an independent inquiry, questioning the army’s handling of the case and the timing of her medical discharge.
