Nigerian tribunal to decide on presidential election challenge on Sept 6

The Nigerian election tribunal, responsible for reviewing petitions contesting the presidential election outcome that led to Bola Tinubu’s ascent to power, is scheduled to announce its verdict on September 6, as confirmed by the court registrar on Monday.

Tinubu emerged victorious in the February presidential election, a result contested by his primary rivals. Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party, who secured second place, and Peter Obi, who came in third, have both taken legal action to challenge Tinubu’s triumph.

Tinubu assumed the presidency of Nigeria in late May, despite the ongoing election challenge. Since taking office, he has faced mounting pressure to promptly address economic and security concerns within the country.
