Nine killed in fresh Libya clashes

At least nine people were killed and 16 wounded on Friday in clashes between armed factions in Tajoura, an eastern suburb of Tripoli, according to the ambulance and emergency authority.

A local resident reported heavy gunfire before Friday prayers and said it was unsafe to leave his home.

The shooting continued for hours before the situation calmed down.

The ambulance authority shared videos of their teams retrieving a body from the scene.

Details about the factions involved or the cause of the violence remain unclear.

Tajoura is located about 25 km (15 miles) east of Tripoli. The violence adds to the ongoing instability in Libya.

Since the 2011 NATO-backed uprising against Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has faced continuous conflict, dividing into warring eastern and western factions in 2014.
