At least 110 dead dolphins have been discovered along the coastline of Somalia’s Puntland region, with authorities still investigating the cause of the mass deaths.
Abdirisak Abdulahi Hagaa, Puntland’s fisheries minister, confirmed the findings near the port city of Bosaso. Samples have been collected to determine what led to the incident.
“We can confirm their deaths were not caused by wounds from nets, as there were no visible injuries,” Hagaa said. He also ruled out toxic contamination, noting that other marine life in the area appeared unaffected.
The grim scene attracted local residents and soldiers, many of whom struggled with the overpowering smell from the decomposing carcasses.
The mystery has raised concerns among environmentalists and local officials, prompting further investigation into potential environmental or ecological factors contributing to the tragedy.
