Kenya has intensified security along its border with Ethiopia after a violent clash left more than 20 people missing.
Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen announced that authorities in both countries are working together to locate those unaccounted for.
The violence erupted on Saturday along the Omo River, where Ethiopian fishermen clashed with their Kenyan counterparts, according to Turkana County Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai.
Local officials reported that 15 boats disappeared during the confrontation, raising concerns over the fate of those involved.
The Turkana community of Kenya and the Dassanech community of Ethiopia have long shared livelihoods based on fishing and pastoralism.
Tensions in the region have historically led to deadly livestock raids, with raiders frequently escaping across the border into Ethiopia.
Despite Kenya hiring more police reservists to reinforce security, incidents of violence continue to threaten stability in the area.
Murkomen stated that Kenya will establish a border post to monitor movements and improve security between the two nations.
Authorities are urging calm as efforts intensify to locate the missing and prevent further violence.
