The U.S. Department of State has authorized the potential sale of 720 Stinger missiles to Egypt for $740 million, according to a statement from the Pentagon on Tuesday.
These missiles have seen high demand in Ukraine, where they have effectively thwarted Russian air assaults, as well as in neighboring European nations concerned about needing to defend against similar threats.
Egypt plans to mount the Stingers on vehicles outfitted with the Avenger launcher system rather than using the shoulder-fired launchers.
RTX Corp will serve as the primary contractor for this deal, as stated by the Pentagon.
Earlier this summer, several NATO countries ordered nearly $700 million worth of Stinger missiles, which has extended the production backlog for these systems through 2029.
Egypt’s order will contribute to this backlog.
