Presidential and legislative races set to shape Africa in 2025

Africa is set for a decisive election year in 2025, with multiple nations heading to the polls to shape their political futures.

At least nine presidential, seven legislative, and several municipal and senatorial elections will take place across the continent.

Gabon kicks off the high-stakes season with presidential elections on April 12, following a 2023 coup.

Burundi votes in June and July, while Malawi and Seychelles hold elections in September.

Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Tanzania will decide their next leaders in October, with Guinea-Bissau and the Central African Republic following later in the year.

Meanwhile, Guinea will transition back to civilian rule through a referendum and general elections.

Togo and Comoros have already begun their electoral processes, with votes scheduled in February.

As shifting alliances and long-standing leaders face challenges, 2025 is set to be a defining moment for African democracy.
