South African President Cyril Ramaphosa vowed Thursday that the country would never again permit “forced removals.”
Speaking in parliament, he stressed that South Africans understand the pain of displacement and must uphold equality and the rule of law.
“This is not the time to seek foreign intervention for issues we can solve ourselves,” he added, urging unity.
His remarks follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s aid freeze over South Africa’s land expropriation law and genocide case against Israel.
Ramaphosa also welcomed a regional summit in Tanzania, which called for dialogue with M23 rebels and outlined steps toward peace.
