River tragedy: 19 killed in Ethiopia boat capsize

At least 19 people have lost their lives after a boat capsized on the Tekeze River in Ethiopia’s northwestern Amhara region on Saturday, according to a report by the state-run Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA).

The vessel was carrying 26 people when it overturned while crossing the river, which shares a border with neighboring Eritrea.

Rescue efforts have resulted in the saving of seven individuals, including a child, while authorities have recovered only two bodies thus far.

This tragic incident marks the second major disaster to strike Ethiopia in recent days.

A devastating landslide in the southern part of the country on Monday claimed the lives of over 250 people.

As rescue operations continue, the full extent of the boat accident’s casualties remains unknown.
