RSF denies claims of women being held in Nyala prison

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Tuesday rejected what it called fabricated media reports alleging that hundreds of women — some accompanied by their children — are being detained in a prison in Nyala, South Darfur.

In a statement dated 7 January 2026, the RSF said the allegations were “completely false” and “not based on any facts on the ground or credible evidence.” The force accused what it described as “paid media rooms” linked to the “Muslim Brotherhood’s army” of promoting the narrative as part of an organized disinformation campaign.

The RSF warned news agencies and human rights organizations against relying on what it called misleading information and false claims, saying the groups behind the reports have repeatedly politicized gender-related issues to provoke emotional reactions and mislead public opinion.

The statement also argued that conditions in Darfur contradict the allegations, claiming that towns and villages across the region have seen “notable security stability” due to RSF efforts to maintain order and protect civilians. It said it would be illogical for a force responsible for local security to “antagonize citizens or violate their rights” within areas under its control.

The RSF urged media outlets and rights organizations to apply “the highest standards of accuracy, professionalism and credibility” before publishing or adopting such claims, and to rely on independent, trustworthy sources rather than what it called deceptive media campaigns.
