Kenyan President William Ruto has expressed support for Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s bold move in removing the petrol subsidy, emphasizing its significance for Africa’s development.
Ruto shared his perspective at a high-level event for African leaders themed “Africa’s green industrialisation,” taking place on the sidelines of COP28 in Dubai, UAE.
During his address, President Ruto commended fellow African leaders, acknowledging the efforts of the President of Zambia and specifically lauding President Tinubu for making challenging decisions aimed at stabilizing their economies.
Ruto stressed the importance of such difficult choices to propel the continent forward.
“We all have to make such difficult decisions to get Africa moving, and I want to promise here that we will gather the courage to make the right decisions so that Africa can match into the future,” declared President Ruto.
He emphasized the need for collaboration with other regions globally to address climate change challenges and create opportunities for the youth, ensuring they stay within Africa for employment and growth.
President Ruto highlighted the goal of job creation and skills development within the continent, urging investors and development partners to recognize Africa’s commitment to green investment projects.
He emphasized the readiness to utilize renewable energy to transform existential threats into opportunities for investments, job creation, and overall development.
Calling for a collective effort, Ruto underscored the necessity for African presidents to collaborate in attracting green energy potential to the continent. He noted that certain companies are already showing interest in investing in Africa, drawn by the tremendous potential, opportunities, and businesses available on the continent.
The president’s message conveyed a vision of Africa as a proactive player in the global green economy, ready to harness its resources for sustainable development.
