Senegal’s audit reveals misjudged financial situation

Senegal’s previous administration significantly underestimated key elements of the country’s financial status, including national debt and the budget deficit, according to a report released by the Court of Auditors on Wednesday.

The audit, commissioned by newly elected President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has uncovered that both the debt and budget deficit were much higher than previously reported by the former government.

The Court of Auditors’ findings span public finances from 2019 to March 2024 and highlight discrepancies and anomalies between the figures presented by the former administration and those uncovered in the audit.
