In a tragic incident in South Africa, six security guards were shot and killed near a school, police reported on Monday. This attack occurred at the Lugongozo Junior Secondary School in Tina Falls, close to Qumbu.
The shooting took place late Sunday night when a group of at least eight armed men opened fire on the guards. According to police, four additional people were injured in the attack, which has left the community in shock.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola visited the area on Monday to address the media. He confirmed that six suspects have been identified, with three of them believed to be local residents.
Masemola explained that the motive for the shooting may be related to stock theft, highlighting ongoing conflicts within various villages. However, he stated that further investigations are needed to fully understand the situation.
Tina Falls, located in the Eastern Cape province, is notorious for cattle raiding and similar criminal activities. The area is roughly 50 kilometers from Ngobozana, where a mass shooting occurred on September 28, resulting in the deaths of multiple individuals.
In that previous incident, three suspects were apprehended for questioning, although the motives remain unclear. Many of the victims were relatives, predominantly women, who were attacked at a rural homestead.
