Somaliland president accuses Somalia in expert’s aviation death

The president of Somaliland has pointed fingers at the Somali government, alleging complicity in the death of Abdinasir Dahable, an aviation expert from Somaliland.

Dahable, employed by the Somali Civil Aviation Authority, was discovered dead on February 18 in his home in Mogadishu, Somalia, showing signs of torture according to forensic examinations.

President Muse Bihi Abdi, speaking at Dahable’s funeral in Gabiley, called for urgent transparency and justice, accusing Somalia’s government of “assassinating” the aviation expert.

Despite BBC News Somali’s request for comment, Somalia’s government has not responded, although they previously mentioned an ongoing investigation and the detention of six suspects in Dahable’s murder.

The accusation by President Bihi adds to existing tensions fueled by the ongoing disagreement between Somaliland and Somalia over airspace control.

The two regions are also in conflict over a maritime deal between Somaliland and landlocked Ethiopia, deemed by Somalia as an “aggression.” Somalia considers Somaliland part of its territory and is determined to defend its sovereignty.

Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991, remains unrecognized as an independent state on the international stage, further complicating the geopolitical dynamics of the region.
