Pilots at South African Airways (SAA) have called off a two-day strike that disrupted nearly half of the airline’s flights, the company announced on Saturday.
The strike, led by the SAA Pilots Association (SAAPA), followed a breakdown in salary negotiations. Initially demanding a 30% pay hike in May, the union later reduced its request to 15.7%, including additional benefits.
SAA, which initially offered an 8.46% increase backdated to April, has now agreed to raise salaries by 9.47%, securing an agreement with SAAPA to end the protest.
The strike caused significant disruptions, with the airline operating only 51% of scheduled flights on Thursday, including just 33% of its international routes. SAA expects to resume its full flight schedule by Sunday.
The union has yet to issue a statement on the agreement.
