South Africa’s acclaimed music sensation, Tyla, has regretfully called off her eagerly awaited world tour just weeks before its scheduled commencement due to an injury.
The Grammy-winning artist, renowned for her international hit “Water,” expressed heartbreak after receiving medical advice advising against proceeding with the tour.
In a social media announcement, the 22-year-old revealed that she had been silently grappling with an unspecified injury for the past year, which has unfortunately deteriorated in severity.
Tyla shared her frustration at this crucial juncture in her career, stating that despite consulting various doctors and specialists with optimism, the pain has only intensified.
“Words cannot describe my frustration at this pivotal point in my career. So please know that my team and I are working diligently on a spectacular show for you as soon as I am recovered and ready to return safely onstage,” she wrote on Instagram.
Tyla’s inaugural global tour was set to commence in Oslo, Norway, later this month, with subsequent stops across Europe and North America, including a performance at the iconic Coachella festival in the California desert. This tour was anticipated on the heels of Tyla’s meteoric success, with her track “Water” making a groundbreaking debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in October and earning her a Grammy for Best African Music Performance in February.
Despite the disappointment of having to decline long-awaited opportunities, Tyla expressed faith in a higher plan, concluding, “It’s hard having to turn down opportunities you’ve been waiting your whole life for, but God has his plan.” The artist’s distinctive style, blending genres such as R&B and amapiano, has garnered international acclaim, contributing to the global popularity of this South African-born musical fusion.
