Tanzania confirms one of its citizens missing in Hamas attack has died

A Tanzanian national who went missing during the October 7 assault by Palestinian Hamas in southern Israel has been officially declared deceased, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dar Es Salaam. Another individual from Tanzania remains untraceable following the incident.

A late Friday statement confirmed the unfortunate demise of farming student Clemence Mtenga, with efforts underway to discuss the repatriation of his body to his family. Meanwhile, the search continues for the second Tanzanian, Joshua Mollel, according to the announcement.

Israeli officials have yet to provide an immediate comment or response.

Around 240 individuals were forcibly taken into the Gaza Strip by Hamas forces, resulting in approximately 1,200 casualties among civilians and soldiers during the initial raid.

The attack triggered a six-week-long conflict with Israel. In the immediate aftermath, several dozen individuals remained unaccounted for.

The precise location of Mtenga’s recovered remains was not immediately disclosed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that he was part of a group of 260 young individuals in Israel for agricultural studies.
