Tebboune: No israel ties before Palestinian statehood

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has firmly stated that his country will not normalize relations with Israel until a Palestinian state is established.

In an exclusive interview with French daily Le Point, Tebboune emphasized, “Our priority is the establishment of a Palestinian state.” He reaffirmed Algeria’s long-standing stance against any diplomatic ties with Israel under current conditions.

The president’s remarks highlight Algeria’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights, which has been a cornerstone of its foreign policy for decades. He added that normalization would only be considered once a Palestinian state is recognized.

Algeria’s position was also evident in its refusal to join the Abraham Accords in 2020, which saw several Arab nations establish diplomatic relations with Israel. Instead, Algeria has consistently championed Palestinian self-determination, advocating for the creation of a state based on pre-1967 borders.

Tebboune’s comments come as Algeria continues to stand in solidarity with Palestinians, reinforcing its commitment to the Palestinian cause and self-determination.

The interview also touched on Algeria’s strained relations with France, which have been marred by issues related to colonial history, migration, and the disputed Western Sahara region. Despite significant efforts to avoid a rupture, Tebboune described the current state of affairs as “poisoned,” highlighting the frustrations with President Macron’s handling of these sensitive issues.

Algeria’s foreign policy remains firmly anchored in its historical revolutionary values, marking it as a key advocate for Palestinian rights on the global stage.
