Mali’s army announced Sunday it had killed 40 militants and dismantled a terrorist base.
The operations, conducted Thursday and Friday, targeted armed groups in central Mali.
According to the army’s statement, an operation on Thursday in Ounguel destroyed a key base, resulting in around 30 enemy combatants neutralized.
Weapons, ammunition, and 24 motorbikes were seized during the raid, the statement added.
A second operation on Friday led to the deaths of 10 additional militants.
Security forces reportedly seized several pick-up trucks and more motorbikes from the militants.
Mali has faced ongoing security challenges since 2012, with Al-Qaeda and Islamic State factions destabilizing large parts of the country.
Additionally, a separatist insurgency has intensified in the northern desert region.
Mali’s current military leaders, who took control in a double coup in 2020 and 2021, have pledged to address the country’s security issues.
