A military exercise led by the United States, named “Justified Accord,” commences in Kenya on Monday, featuring participation from over 20 nations in what is touted as the most extensive event of its kind in East Africa.
Scheduled to run for 11 days until next Thursday, the exercise aims to enhance the preparedness of participating countries for peacekeeping missions, crisis response, and humanitarian assistance, as reported by state-owned Somali broadcaster SNTV and Kenyan media.
The event will involve the engagement of dozens of US-trained Somali commandos. Kenyans.co.ke, a private news website, noted the participation of 1,000 personnel and units from 23 nations in this comprehensive exercise.
The US military emphasized that “Justified Accord” stands as its “largest exercise in East Africa,” emphasizing its role in showcasing the commitment of the US and partner nations to bolster readiness and interoperability for regional security and crisis response.
In recent years, the US has spearheaded similar exercises in East Africa, addressing the challenges posed by a deadly al-Shabab insurgency and other security concerns in the region.
