Three Arab Israelis, two Egyptians injured in Taba hotel brawl

A violent altercation in the Egyptian town of Taba, located on the border with Israel, resulted in injuries to three Arab Israeli tourists and two Egyptian hotel workers on Friday, according to Egyptian security sources.

The incident reportedly began when an Arab Israeli tourist verbally insulted an Egyptian hotel employee, leading to a physical confrontation. The situation escalated quickly, involving other tourists and hotel staff in the brawl.

Egypt’s state-affiliated Al-Qahera News television channel reported that one of the Egyptian workers suffered serious injuries. The channel also mentioned that the fight was triggered by a dispute over payment for hotel services, with several tourists allegedly refusing to settle their bills.

This incident comes in the wake of heightened tensions following the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7. There have been sporadic attacks on Israelis in Egypt since the conflict began. Notably, a day after the war erupted, two Israeli tourists and their Egyptian guide were fatally shot by a policeman in Alexandria, marking the first such attack on Israelis in Egypt in decades.
