Three members of Cairo wedding party killed as car plunges into Nile

Late Sunday, state media reported that three members of a wedding party tragically lost their lives in Cairo when their vehicle veered off a bridge and into the Nile River. The incident occurred near Maadi, a southern district of the Egyptian capital.

According to Al-Akhbar Al-Youm, the car, carrying the bride’s sister, brother-in-law, and four others, crashed through a metal barrier on a motorway.

First responders recovered the bodies of the bride’s sister and two passengers, while they rescued two survivors, including the critically injured brother-in-law who was driving.

A search operation for a missing person continued into Monday.

Witnesses described the driver’s erratic behavior on the bridge before the accident, highlighting the risks associated with festive wedding processions common in Egypt, where adorned cars often navigate bustling streets with loud music playing.
