Truck overloaded with passengers crashes in Nigeria killing at least 25

Twenty-five individuals lost their lives in Niger state, Nigeria, when the truck they were traveling in veered out of control and collided on a bustling expressway.

According to the federal road safety agency’s report on Wednesday, the truck, en route from Sokoto state to Lagos, was found to be speeding and excessively overloaded with both passengers and cargo.

Several of the over 200 passengers who survived the accident suffered severe injuries.

Authorities confirmed the accident on Wednesday, although it occurred during Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu labeled the accident as “a distressing tragedy” and instructed emergency response agencies to guarantee that the injured survivors receive essential medical care.

Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger state also mandated a prohibition on the utilization of trucks and other haulage vehicles for transporting passengers.
