Tunisian security forces have arrested two men wanted in terrorism-related cases following investigations in the Greater Tunis area, Erem News reported on Saturday.
Officers in Hammam Lif, in Ben Arous governorate, located the men after surveillance and field investigations targeting one of them.
One of the detainees had been sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison on charges of joining a terrorist organisation and participating in terrorist activities, according to the report.
The second man was arrested in Ezzahra, in the same governorate. He was wanted by security and judicial authorities in connection with terrorism cases, theft and offences against public property.
Prosecutors ordered both men held pending legal procedures and their referral to the authorities responsible for enforcing the sentences issued against them.
The report did not identify either man or name the organisation linked to the first detainee.
Tunisia has experienced attacks by extremist groups in past years, including political assassinations and the killing of police officers and military personnel. Courts have handed down lengthy prison sentences to people convicted of involvement in such violence.
