Turkish delegation visits Somalia’s Galmudug for investments

Turkey is considering new investment initiatives in Somalia’s central state of Galmudug, according to the Turkish ambassador to the country on Tuesday.

A delegation led by Turkey’s Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktas, arrived in Dusmareb, the capital of Galmudug, and engaged in discussions with the state’s president, Ahmed Abdi Karie, and his Cabinet.

The talks focused on the development of infrastructure projects in Galmudug and the potential involvement of Turkish investments.

“We had productive discussions on the steps necessary to establish the infrastructure crucial for the development of Galmudug and how Turkish investments could contribute to this effort,” Aktas said in a statement released by the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu.

A long-standing ally of Somalia, Turkey has been deeply involved in the country’s education, infrastructure, and healthcare sectors, as well as providing substantial humanitarian aid.

Additionally, Turkey operates its largest overseas military base in Mogadishu, where it trains the Somali National Army.
