Two Tanzanian soldiers killed in escalating DR Congo conflict

The Tanzanian army confirmed Sunday that two of its soldiers were killed in clashes with M23 rebels in eastern DR Congo.

The troops were part of the SADC mission deployed to counter the escalating violence in the conflict-ridden region.

Army spokesperson Gaudentius Ilonda said four other Tanzanian soldiers were wounded and are receiving treatment in Goma.

SADC has called for a joint summit with the East African Community (EAC) to address the crisis.

Rwanda, accused of backing M23, denies involvement but supports talks while criticizing SADC’s role in DR Congo.

A UN report last year claimed Rwanda had 4,000 troops in eastern DR Congo, controlling M23 rebels.

Tensions remain high as the conflict continues to destabilize the region.
