Ugandan pastor Aloysius Bugingo survives assassination attempt

Aloysius Bugingo, a prominent Ugandan religious leader and entrepreneur, narrowly escaped an attack by unknown gunmen in Kampala, the capital city.

The assailants targeted Bugingo’s vehicle while he was en route to his residence in the Namungoona area on Tuesday night. Despite sustaining injuries, Bugingo managed to drive his vehicle to a nearby hospital following the attack, as confirmed by the police.

The police disclosed that the attackers fled the scene on a motorcycle after opening fire on Bugingo’s vehicle. While investigations are ongoing, law enforcement authorities are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators, noting that the scene had been tampered with.

Richard Muhumuza, the pastor’s bodyguard, tragically succumbed to his injuries inflicted by the assailants’ gunfire.

Describing the incident as an attempted murder, the police highlighted that Bugingo, the founder of House of Prayer Ministries International, has been an ardent supporter of Uganda’s ruling party.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. However, the occurrence follows a recent surge in unprecedented gun violence in Uganda’s capital, resulting in the fatal shooting of several prominent individuals.
