Reports from local media indicate that operations are anticipated to restart under newly proposed and stringent regulations, subject to approval by the parliament.
It is purported that the company plans to expand its operations across various locations within Kenya and intends to sustain its practice of disbursing stipends to users.
In August, Kenyan authorities suspended Worldcoin’s activities citing concerns related to data privacy. The forthcoming revival involves negotiations to adhere to stricter regulatory frameworks.
The cryptocurrency initiative, an undertaking by the US-based artificial intelligence firm OpenAI, faced scrutiny and investigation in Kenya following allegations that the infra-red light utilized by Worldcoin’s eye-scanning devices had caused harm to some users’ eyes. This prompted a forensic analysis of the orb.
Worldcoin countered these claims, asserting to the BBC that the orb’s technology adheres to international standards and is safe for use.
