Algeria and Italy formally signed fourteen significant agreements and memoranda of understanding this Wednesday across diverse strategic sectors, including security and defense.
The official ceremony in Rome, attended by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, marked a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.
These comprehensive agreements encompass critical fields such as agriculture, energy, counterterrorism, culture, telecommunications, and maritime rescue operations, fostering broader collaboration.
Notable among the signed deals is a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the “Enrico Mattei Center” for agricultural training, research, and innovation in Algeria.
In the vital security sector, both nations inked an agreement to substantially boost cooperation in combating terrorism and meticulously cutting off its insidious funding sources.
Culturally, a joint film production agreement and a scientific program for heritage protection were finalized, supporting artistic and historical preservation efforts.
An operational plan for coordinating crucial maritime search and rescue within each side’s regional area of responsibility was also formally agreed upon this Wednesday.
Regarding investment, an MoU was signed between Algeria’s Investment Promotion Agency and Italy’s state-owned Invitalia, strengthening economic partnerships and attracting vital capital.
The meeting also witnessed a significant energy agreement between Algeria’s state-owned oil company Sonatrach and Italy’s energy group Eni, deepening their existing sector partnership.
Algerian President Tebboune commenced his three-day official visit to Rome on Tuesday, holding high-level bilateral talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Meloni.
Earlier that same day, a bustling Algerian-Italian business forum successfully opened in Rome, drawing over 500 participants, including prominent business leaders and experts.
