Egypt seeks to strengthen partnerships with Turkey in the tourism industry, according to an official.
Mohamed Atta Elsherbeiny, the international tourism chief of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, emphasized the need for collaboration over competition.
In a statement to Anadolu, he noted that Egypt and Turkey previously competed for tourist dollars.
However, following the pandemic, both nations have shifted focus toward cooperation to enhance tourism experiences.
Speaking at a tourism fair in Antalya, Elsherbeiny highlighted the role of airlines in this partnership.
He revealed that approximately 100 weekly flights operate between Turkey and Egypt, facilitating easier travel for tourists.
Tourists traveling from various regions can now access Egypt through Turkey, which serves as a major flight hub.
This arrangement benefits tour operators in both countries and promotes greater tourism flow.
Furthermore, Elsherbeiny pointed out that tourism investors from Turkey are increasingly interested in Egypt.
He mentioned a well-known Turkish company currently operating seven hotels in Egypt, with plans for three additional properties underway.
Regarding Turkish tourists, he reported that Egypt welcomed around 180,000 visitors from Turkey last year.
The two countries attract tourists during different seasons, with Turkey being popular in the summer and Egypt in the winter.
Elsherbeiny concluded by stating that both nations should prioritize cooperation rather than competition.
He believes this approach will enhance the tourism sectors in both Egypt and Turkey and lead to mutual benefits.
