French President Emmanuel Macron pledged full support for Ethiopia’s debt restructuring efforts, urging swift resolution “in the coming weeks.”
Macron’s backing follows Ethiopia’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a $3.4 billion financing program.
“We aim to complete the restructuring of this 3 billion-euro debt soon,” he stated at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Macron also emphasized France’s support for Ethiopia’s discussions with the IMF, with a key meeting scheduled for mid-January.
The visit underscores France’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia as it navigates financial reforms.
Prime Minister Abiy welcomed the support, highlighting the country’s ongoing reform efforts.
