Niger, grappling with economic hardship under regional sanctions imposed following a July military coup, announced Friday the reinstatement of a tax on international calls. In a statement broadcasted on state television, the government confirmed the reintroduction of the charge on incoming international calls. This tax, previously abolished in 2022, is now deemed “useful” in light of the “illegal and inhumane sanctions” imposed upon the country.
