Qatar Airways takes a 25% stake in South African carrier Airlink

Qatar Airways has acquired a 25% stake in the private African carrier Airlink, both airlines announced Tuesday.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

South Africa-based Airlink operates flights to over 45 destinations across southern and East Africa.

The partnership aims to expand an existing code-share agreement between the airlines.

Qatar Airways currently serves 29 destinations across Africa.

This new investment is expected to strengthen its presence and connectivity within the African market.

“Our investment in Airlink further highlights Africa’s importance to our business strategy,” said Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed al-Meer in a statement.

Qatar Airways is owned by the Qatari government, solidifying its position as a key player in global aviation with this latest move in Africa.
