Deaths after Myanmar’s ethnic groups target junta

A Myanmar ethnic armed group clashed with junta troops for a second day in northern Shan state, residents and media reported on Wednesday.

Two civilians were reported killed in the renewed fighting.

The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) launched dawn attacks on military positions in Kyaukme on Tuesday.

The town sits on a vital trade route to China.

These attacks breached a China-brokered ceasefire that had ended weeks of fighting in Shan state between the military, the TNLA, and two other allied ethnic armed groups.

A rescue worker told AFP that TNLA attacked a police station in Kyaukme on Wednesday morning.

Locals feared to leave their homes amidst the ongoing violence.

Another rescue worker reported that artillery shelling on Tuesday resulted in two civilians killed and two wounded, though it was unclear which side fired the shells.
