Egypt denies reports of accepting displaced Gazans for aid

Egypt has firmly denied media reports alleging that it will accept displaced Palestinians from Gaza in exchange for economic aid.

In a statement on Monday, the State Information Service (SIS) condemned such claims, emphasizing that any displacement of Gazans constitutes a direct threat to Egyptian national security.

“The displacement of Palestinians represents a liquidation of the Palestinian cause and an imminent threat to Egyptian national security,” the statement read.

Egypt reaffirmed its unwavering rejection of any forced or voluntary relocation of Palestinians outside Gaza, particularly into Egyptian territory.

The SIS stressed that Egypt’s foreign policy has never been based on bargaining national or Arab interests, regardless of economic pressures.

“Egypt has willingly and patiently borne significant financial and economic burdens without ever compromising its national security or the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,” the statement continued.

The Egyptian government also dismissed Israeli media reports from Friday, which suggested that Cairo was preparing to relocate 500,000 Palestinians to North Sinai as part of a Gaza reconstruction plan.

The denial comes amid escalating violence in Gaza.

On March 18, Israel launched a surprise aerial assault, killing at least 730 Palestinians and injuring nearly 1,200, despite an existing ceasefire agreement.

Since October 2023, more than 50,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, and over 113,200 injured in Israeli attacks.
