Egypt ready to lead Gaza rebuilding efforts after ceasefire

Egypt confirmed on Tuesday that it is prepared to host an international conference to help rebuild Gaza after an expected cease-fire agreement between Israel and Palestinian groups.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdealatty expressed Egypt’s readiness, stating, “Once conditions allow, after the Gaza cease-fire, Egypt will host an international conference for the reconstruction of the area.” This comes as talks about the cease-fire near their conclusion.

Abdealatty emphasized the need for political alignment to reach a cease-fire agreement. “It is time for political will to align in reaching a cease-fire deal for Gaza,” he said.

In Doha, Qatar revealed that Gaza cease-fire negotiations are in their “final details.” Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari announced that an agreement was “imminent,” as both Hamas and Israel have been handed a draft.

The spokesman mentioned that significant hurdles on critical issues had been addressed, and both sides are moving closer to a resolution. Hamas also confirmed the agreement’s nearing finalization, stating it involves both a cease-fire and a prisoner swap.

Palestinian sources shared that the deal, which could be signed by Friday, is almost complete, with only a few details left to finalize.

The ongoing conflict has taken a devastating toll on Gaza, with over 46,600 people killed since October 7, 2023, most of them women and children. Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel’s military actions continue.

Israel faces growing international pressure, including arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court over alleged war crimes and a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
