Egypt’s foreign ministry on Monday issued a strong call for international powers and the United Nations Security Council to intervene immediately to halt the escalating violence between Israel and Lebanon.
The ministry expressed deep concern over the deadly Israeli air strikes that have claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians, including children, in Lebanon.
This marked the deadliest cross-border escalation since the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip began in October.
Egypt, a key mediator in the region, has repeatedly warned against Israel’s regional escalation, emphasizing the risk of a comprehensive regional war.
The ministry reiterated its solidarity with Lebanon and affirmed its rejection of any violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territory.
Thousands of Lebanese families have been forced to flee their homes in the south of the country following Israeli military warnings to avoid targets.
The warnings and subsequent strikes represent a significant escalation in the conflict.
World powers have urged both Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah to de-escalate the situation and avoid a full-scale war.
Egypt has also continued its efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and restore calm to the region.
