Firefighters battle LA wildfires as Hollywood Hills blaze spreads

A massive wildfire in Los Angeles has claimed at least five lives and destroyed over 1,100 structures, including homes and businesses, as multiple fires continue to ravage the city.

The Pacific Palisades fire, which is now the most destructive in LA history, has burned 15,832 acres since Tuesday and remains the largest of the five active blazes.

The Sunset Fire in Hollywood Hills has spread to more than 60 acres, prompting evacuation orders as it moves toward Hollywood Boulevard. Over 100,000 residents have fled their homes, and more than 450,000 customers are without power.

Authorities are overwhelmed by the scale of the fires, with multiple fire officials stating that there aren’t enough personnel to combat the blazes effectively.

The fires are fueled by fierce Santa Ana winds, dry vegetation, and low humidity.

The Eaton Fire, which has burned over 10,600 acres northeast of Downtown LA, is responsible for the five fatalities. Firefighters are struggling to contain the blazes, with three of the five fires reported to be 0% contained as of early Thursday.
