Hamas warns against ‘chaos’ after officer’s killing as Protests Grow

A Gaza family’s admission that they killed a Hamas police officer in retaliation for a relative’s death has intensified public dissent against the group after 18 months of war with Israel.

The Hamas-run interior ministry warned against actions undermining public order, but the killing and recent protests reflect growing civilian frustration with Hamas rule.

On Wednesday, hundreds rallied in Beit Lahiya, chanting “Hamas out” and “Enough death,” angered by new Israeli evacuation orders. Protesters may have been emboldened by a reduced Hamas security presence after recent Israeli attacks.

Viral footage of the officer’s killing showed him being shot in the head before being riddled with bullets. The family in Deir Al-Balah confirmed the act but said it was unplanned, blaming Hamas police for their relative’s death.

Hamas condemned the killing, calling it a crime that “serves Zionist goals” and vowed to prosecute those responsible. Meanwhile, another family in Gaza City accused Hamas police of killing a relative, vowing revenge.
