The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor (Euro-Med) slammed the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor on Thursday, accusing him of displaying a “clear double standard” on the Palestinian issue.
In a statement, the Geneva-based organization expressed deep concern that the ICC’s inability to fulfill its mandate would cause “irreversible harm” to Palestinian human rights.
Euro-Med specifically called upon the ICC to treat Israel’s alleged crimes in the Gaza Strip, including accusations of genocide, with the “utmost seriousness.”
The statement went on to claim that the International Court of Justice, the UN’s highest judicial body, had already confirmed the “suspicion” of genocide.
Euro-Med further criticized the ICC for alleged inconsistencies in handling cases.
The statement highlighted “evident disparities” in how the ICC approaches situations like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict compared to more recent crises, such as the war in Ukraine.
The organization also urged the ICC to launch an investigation into whether the prosecutor himself adhered to principles of independence and impartiality when dealing with the Palestinian case.
