Israeli airstrikes targeted the outskirts of Syria’s Damascus, Hama, and Daraa regions late Friday, according to Syria’s state news agency SANA. The attacks resulted in the death of one civilian and left four others injured in the Hama area, SANA reported.
The strikes are part of Israel’s ongoing military operations aimed at Syria, which it views as a rising threat following the takeover by Islamist factions. Israel has frequently targeted Syria’s military infrastructure, including air defense systems and weapon storage sites, in response to the growing influence of Islamist groups in the country.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strikes, stating they had hit “a military site, anti-aircraft cannons, and surface-to-air missile infrastructure.” The IDF has long maintained that its actions are in defense of its security interests, particularly regarding the presence of Iranian-backed forces and Islamist militias near its borders.
Earlier on Friday, Israel also bombed a location near the presidential palace in Damascus, issuing a clear warning to the new Islamist-led Syrian authorities about Israel’s readiness to intensify its military operations. These strikes are part of a broader strategy, which also included operations in support of Syria’s Druze minority.
