Israeli airstrike targets French Institute and AFP office in Gaza

The French Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Israeli air strike struck the French Institute in Gaza with no reported injuries among staff, and the Gaza office of news organization Agence France-Presse (AFP) was also affected.

The French ministry has urgently requested Israeli authorities to promptly provide the “tangible” reasons behind the strike on the institute.

In a distinct statement, the ministry conveyed its “deep and serious concerns” regarding the civilian casualties in Gaza.

AFP reported on social media platform X that its Gaza Strip office was shelled by the Israeli army, sustaining significant damage due to a strike on Thursday.

At the time of the incident, none of the eight AFP staff members or regular employees who are typically stationed in Gaza were present at the location. They had all been relocated to the southern part of the Gaza Strip on October 13, as stated.

“AFP condemns in the strongest terms this strike on its office in Gaza City,” it said.
