A Kenyan officer deployed with the multinational security support (MSS) mission in Haiti was reported missing on Tuesday following an attack by armed gangs, according to an MSS statement.
The incident occurred as MSS forces assisted a Haitian police vehicle that had become stuck in a ditch, which authorities suspect was intentionally dug by gangs.
Kenya’s police service confirmed that a search and rescue operation was underway in coordination with Haitian authorities to locate the missing officer.
Local media reports suggested the soldier may have been killed, with videos circulating on social media appearing to show a body in a bloodied uniform.
