In an early Saturday knife attack at Paris’ Gare de Lyon rail station, three people were wounded, with police ruling out terrorism at this stage.
The suspected attacker, displaying signs of mental disorders, was arrested, as stated by Paris police chief Laurent Nunes, who added, “We found medicine on him which suggests he was undergoing treatment.”
Two victims sustained light wounds, while the third, although more seriously injured, was not in a life-threatening condition, according to police reports.
The attacker, legally present in France with Italian residence permits, assaulted travelers with a knife and hammer. While French media indicated his origin as Mali, Nunes did not confirm these reports.
Despite France experiencing a series of Islamist militant attacks in the past decade, occasional assaults by individuals with mental health issues have also occurred.
