Lebanon is working to ensure that any response to the Israeli killing of a top Hezbollah commander in Beirut does not trigger a broader conflict in the Middle East, Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib said on Tuesday.
Tensions in the region have escalated following the killing of Hamas’ leader in Tehran and an Israeli strike on Beirut’s suburbs that killed senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr.
Hezbollah stated last week that the Iran-backed group would respond in a calculated manner.
Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, igniting a war in Gaza.
