
Meta on Wednesday launched paid subscription plans for its flagship apps, aiming to diversify revenue beyond longstanding advertising reliance model.
Meta head of product Naomi Gleit announced rollout in Instagram video, unveiling Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus and WhatsApp Plus globally.
The company said more subscription plans are planned for businesses, creators and artificial intelligence products in coming phases globally.
The move comes as Meta faces investor scrutiny over AI spending and capital expenditure between 125 and 145 billion dollars.
Meta shares rose nearly three percent following the announcement, reflecting investor optimism despite concerns over heavy AI investments spending overall.
According to reports, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at 3.99 dollars monthly, while WhatsApp Plus costs 2.99 dollars monthly.

WhatsApp Plus focuses on personalization, including premium stickers, custom ringtones and app themes for enhanced user expression experience worldwide today.
Gleit said the company intends to eventually consolidate its various offerings under a single brand called Meta One platform vision.
Meta launched ad-free paid versions of Facebook and Instagram in Europe in 2023 to comply with EU data rules legislation.
