The Pentagon revealed on Friday plans to scale down US forces in Syria, reducing troop numbers to fewer than 1,000 in the coming months.
This move follows the successful efforts against ISIS, including its territorial defeat in 2019 under President Trump’s administration.
Spokesman Sean Parnell stated that the consolidation of US forces will occur under the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve.
The adjustment will see forces stationed at select locations in Syria as part of the strategic shift.
The reduction reflects significant progress in diminishing the operational capabilities of ISIS both regionally and globally.
Parnell emphasized that this change is part of a deliberate, conditions-based process, aimed at refining US presence in the region.
This step marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing fight against terrorism, with the US continuing to assess the situation in Syria while maintaining a focused counterterrorism strategy.
