Rome to host 5th Iran-US nuclear talks

Iran and the US will hold nuclear talks in Rome this week, mediated by Oman, aiming for a new deal after Trump exited the 2015 agreement.

These are the fifth high-level discussions since April.

The goal is to curb Iran’s nuclear activities for sanctions relief; Western nations suspect weaponization, which Iran denies.

Iran’s Supreme Leader expressed doubt, while a US negotiator opposed any Iranian enrichment, a stance Iran rejects.

Iran currently enriches uranium to 60%, exceeding the 2015 limit but below weapons-grade.

After the US withdrawal and renewed sanctions, Iran rolled back its commitments.

European powers are considering reimposing UN sanctions, a move Iran warns against.
