Russia and Ukraine swap 300+ prisoners in UAE deal

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged prisoners of war in a deal mediated by the United Arab Emirates.

The Russian Ministry of Defence announced the release of 150 Ukrainian prisoners.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the return of 189 Ukrainians, including two civilians captured in Mariupol.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the UAE for facilitating the exchange and thanked the teams involved in bringing the Ukrainians home.

The released prisoners were provided with medical and psychological support in Belarus before returning to Ukraine.

This marks the 60th prisoner exchange since the start of the conflict in February 2022.

The exchange comes amidst ongoing military operations and political tensions between the two countries.
