Russia denounced the explosion at a Gaza hospital complex on Wednesday, which health officials reported resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people, characterizing it as a “crime” and an “act of dehumanization.”
Israel and Palestinian militants have exchanged accusations for the blast, triggering worldwide condemnation and leading to violent protests in various Muslim countries.
“Regarding our assessment, we certainly qualify such an act as a crime, as an act of dehumanisation,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, without saying who she thought was responsible.
She noted that Russia had been monitoring official statements from Israel, where Israel denies involvement, and insisted that Israel should now furnish evidence to support its position.
“If there are serious intentions … to prove it was not involved and is innocent, then it needs not only to comment in the media and on social networks, but to provide facts,” she said.
“Please provide satellite images, and it would be nice if the American partners did, that show the geography of flights, with all the details that were available at that time,” she added.
On Wednesday, the Israeli army stated it possessed “evidence” indicating that militants were behind the hospital explosion and asserted that a review substantiated the culpability of others.
